Re: Black Feather... Anyone on here remember when this was Imogene Fowller's (sp?) restaurant. As best as I can remember, I was around 8 at the time, it could seat about 10-12 people and was a busy little place in the 60's. North Broadway and Lester street, hard as it may be to believe, was Berea's original industrial area. And home to a train station, two concrete plants, a coal tipple, two body shops, numerous auto parts and auto repair shops, a couple of coin operated laundry’s, hotel and two or three grocery stores and a jail. I wish Black Feather the best. But, history being an indicator, folks are having a increasingly difficult time surviving that area. Especially so in the food service arena. Craig Still |

QUOTE: "Windstream provides *the slowest Internet service in the universe." If you are dissatisfied with your service, switch to cable (Raodrunner) rather than complaining. DSL in KY has lower speeds and greater latency than cable. As a last resort, investigate a T1 line of your own with guarenteed up time of 95% should be under $400.00 per month. 1.5meg / 1.5meg non fractional transfer rates. Of cource you are still going to be using Windstream (Alltel, Verizon, AT&T, GTE etc. copper). And for those who are just mad at the who mess, you have the opton of satellite service via HughesNet. For about $60.00 per month you can get dial-up speeds with reasonable service on sunny days. Heavy clouds and parcipitation puts you S.O.L. |

My remark about the Black Feather Cafe prompted an anonymous response that was less than kind. Hmmmm. Someone threatened by the competition perhaps?
Granted, the Black Feather does not offer some items currently available in other local coffee shops, such as unlicensed pharmaceutical products. But I think people like the fact that you can get something new and different at a reasonable price. Some prospective competitors [Sune Fredericksen] has wished the Black Feather well, because his attitude is that competition makes everyone better. |

If you follow the real estate ads, you might have noticed that Ground Effects coffee house is up for sale for about $40,000.
Just a bit too far from college, maybe. In terms of style and service and products, I think the Black Feather in Old Town is becoming the town's best coffee house. |

I haven't been on here for a while, so I just noticed the request for "Windstream horror stories" that AndyofTroy posted in June. I don't know whether I have a "horror story" but I will say that I think Windstream provides *the slowest Internet service in the universe.* Also, while the folks who handle Internet questions are nice enough it takes far too long to get one of them on the phone, and I've had at least one who was not ready to speak to English-speaking customers. At all. After 27 minutes of trying to understand what he was saying, I had a splitting headache and just gave up! |

Unfortunately, Brian Boggs decided to move his operation up north where most of his customers are. I can't remember where. Maybe Michigan? He still plans to purchase his wood from Kentucky, however. A real loss for Old Town. |

Just notice the chair maker on Lester st. (Brian Boggs?) is no longer there and the building is for sale. And ideas what happened or where he moved to? |

Try calling Peanut and reporting the violator. I know somone who did, and Peanut fired the guy due to that being a repeat complaint. At least he responded to the complaint. Berea's current council members would probably have called for a public forum, asked Larry Shinn what he thought and then leased and improved some more College property (at taxpayer expense) with a taxi driver training course. Tom McCay remarked yesterday that Walgreens sent out a letter stating they will be opening within two weeks.
It'll be interesting to see what that does, competitively speaking, to Wal-Mart. Will it make them more competitive on some items. Some seem to think so. |
