I have contacted the Berea City Gov. concerning the problems that I am having on Richmond Rd.
Around June 6, 2008 a construction company dug up our yard and driveway. They also dug up several of our neighbors yards and driveways. It has now been 3 months and our yards and driveways still have not been fixed.
I have NEVER received a call back from the city concerning this matter.
I am the owner of this property, and I am entitled to have my yard and driveway fixed back to how it was prior to them coming thru here and doing this.

Today's question: Do you know how much of a small fee we're talking about for utitlies to have everyone paying equal for lightpoles, manhole covers, etc.? I think I understand more now. The residential customers are paying less than their fair share, so it's the business customers who are paying more for things that help us all. To fix this, we will all pay for how much power we use, plus a small fee for the poles, manhole covers and all. I'd like to know how much of a small fee we're talking about, (maybe I will go back and read article again). I just ran into a good, hard-working young friend who told me her husband had gotten laid off from factory after 6 unblemished years of work. She works in a store but doesn't make enough to keep house payments, bills, food, etc. paid, plus they have young children, she is worried sick--and all the bills are going up everyday. Hers is just one story of many Berea City citizens right now. It may be the goal of the Berea Utility Dept.to provide reliable service at a fair cost, but will it hurt the citizens of Berea who are not financially wealthy, that are old or sick, single moms, laid-off fathers, college students living off campus, the disabled? I guess it all depends on how much of a "small fee" they charge. I understand the point of it all now, but worry that the low and middle class in Berea will be taking the brunt of it, they are the ones who will be affected by it the most, and are trying to keep their heads above water now. I hate sounding like Eeyore here, but don't see any way out. Maybe we should all chip in and buy us a mountain in Jackson County or somewhere and live the commune life, when this place all falls apart, we'll be the only ones left-then we'll come back and use all the utilities we want--free of charge to all. That's wry humor, don't really think our economy right now is funny at all.

"Or the Police could do SOMETHING about it?!!! "

Sure, but between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm the citizens can make all the noise they want, without fear of our neo nazi police unit accousting them. So whats that tell you Luna? Wake up, get up, go to work or clean the house, whatever. During waking hours, mind you own business. After hours, call the law. They may even respond and shoot the noise maker, that would quieten things down.

Mt. Vernon is progressive enough to know where, when and how to build a pedestrian tunnel.

When you're throwin' off on them, do you think that may hit your bottom line someday. Lots of Rockcastle money is spent here in Berea, boys. I'm pretty sure we can use all the out-of-county funds we can get here in Berea.

Think about it. Mr Greene

Fear not, Greene. Bear in mind you can always flee to the utopia that is Mt. Vernon.

Agendas--AGENDAS!!!!....The "improvements" at the end of Forest St. and Lorraine Court...those would be at the only entrance/exit to one council member's street..one on which he owns several lots currently for sale. And that intersection is also near 2 more council members homes.

The "improvements" at the end of Center at it's Chestnut intersection...that would be the Mayor's voting stronghold..that is he historically gets more of a percentage of votes than his opponents do from that area than any other area in the City. Did we really need that stuff or would our time, efforts and money be better used to improve our existing parks or provide programs for our youth.

This council has sure taken care of certain things during their terms. President Shinn seems to have too much influence as well. Their focus always seems to be on crafts and tourism. That's okay to push crafts and tourism, but we have other pressing issues that seem to be moved to the back burner or dropped all together due to their narrow focus on city issues.

One council member takes a sabbatical to Florida after every Christmas and returns after the spring thaw. Do we pay this person 100% of their council person's salary? Well I'm sure we do. Wonder if this council person stays in touch and just phones in their vote? I hope someone prints an attendance factoid on council and how each member voted on critical issues.

Berea's at a turning point...2 more years heading in the same direction and we'll be toast.

Please, someone run who has a chance to change the wrongs done to our community.

And when you vote, don't fill your slate with 2-5 you know nothing about. Vote for only the ones you really think "deserve to serve". And then stop voting. If you only voted for 2, that's ok. Because not voting for someone is almost like giving the ones you voted for 2 votes.

The town I love so much is facing one of it's most critical council votes in it's history. Let's try to get this one right and change at least 3 of that bunch out.

Mr Greene.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but here goes!!! is there ANY WAY that Berea City Council could pass a law about loud noises?!!! Or the Police could do SOMETHING about it?!!! I live on Boone Street. There are two people who CONSTANTLY are loud with their car stereos. (green camaro, white bronco) Why do I have to put up with this IN my home? I do not understand. I cant watch t.v. or sit on my porch. I feel like crying. I feel so frustrated. People speed down my street all the time, day and night. I dont know how kids and pets are not hit. They play their music loud day and night too. :( I am surprised more people don't get in fights over this kinda thing. Besides the two guys in Richmond, I mean. These are people making noise who live on Boone Street (green camoaro) and Phillips Street (white ford bronco). Why dont they have respect for their neighbors and why dont' our police do something about it?!!! Am I the only one who has problems with this?!!!

Craig, I guess I don't see what the big deal is. Most moms are discreet, I think. I don't think I know Mr. Park, but Sundae's very nice, so I can't imagine why they would be taking heat.
