Questions for Steve Connelly

For Steve Connelly:
Doesn't berea have a curfew? Everytime I call to have a police officer sent out the dispach operator acts like I am crazy for calling and most of the time an officer never comes. Also if the city is going waste paint to paint yellows lines on the curbs for the intent of NO PARKING, then shouldn't our police officers be obligated to response to my call when people are parking in these painted zones. The only response I get is - there is nothing we can do as long as they're not blocking traffic. Well, they block mail boxes ( mailman refuses to deliver mail) and garbage pickup ( Rumpke rufused to pickup trash).

The road side for Breckwood Dr broke a month ago. The city was called and someone came out and got the sign. As of today is still hasn't been put back up. When should the residents of Breckwood Dr expect this sign to be replaced?

With all due respect, Mr. Mayor--shouldn't all the questionable issues and grey areas about the resturaunt tax have been firmed up before implimenting such a tax. I can tell you this, if Walmart thinks it can make a dime, they're all over any new idea, tax or suggestion. Please, can council look at this and similar issues concerning the resturaunt tax. I really think that what Walmart does is charge tax on anything coming out of the deli and that simply is not (I hope) what you all intended. Mr Green
Answer: Please explain why you beleive Walmart makes money on the restaurant tax.... Read Full Answer

For Steve Connelly:
Dear Mayor, I live in Creekside Village and I have a wooden fence that was professionally installed and is currently seperating my property from a neighbor's. The neighbor attached to my fence without either verbal or written permission and then later added a swimming pool. The extra fill dirt used in leveling his pool in his backyard was then placed against my fence line (on his side) and is as high as a foot in some areas. This is relatively troublesome as this is placing a great deal of pressure against my fence, causing bowing of the crossbeams supporting the panels and is now suspectable to drainage issues from the clay dirt he has placed against the fence, potential problems with termites and other issues. I plan to speak with him about it but need to know what legal recourse I can fall back on if he is resistant to my asking him to remove the dirt and to cover repair costs. Should I call the city codes office and have them come onsite to show them the issues with drainage, erosion and damage that has already occured? I have pictures showing him building and adding to my fence, which (again) he did without my permission and have retained my receipt for the initial installation of my fence, showing ownership of the property line section. I was willing to overlook that, but this new issue bodes to cause problems..what can I do? I have taken pictures of the dirt placed on the other side of the fence and cannot believe someone actually would do such a thing as they share the benefit of having it protect their home and pool from trespassers and give them relief from wayward children crossing and potentially drowning in their pool. Perhaps I should take down the fence at our property line to show the exposure of the raised dirt wall that resides on the other side. Please give me suggestions on what I can do (aside from speaking to him) concerning this matter. Thank you in advance.
Answer: It certainly makes sense to speak with your neighbor. You can also speak with the codes enforcement ... Read Full Answer

When the restaurant tax was implemented, were sliced meats and dipped up salads and the like intended to be taxed at grocery stores and delis? I can't really believe your intentions was to gouge the locals, but generate income from visitors, which isn't really a bad idea. But charging restuarant tax on sliced meats seems to be little much. Could that be changed? Thank you for considering this request.
Answer: The answer depends upon a definition of restaurant. KRS 91A.400 provides for a 3 percent tax on the ... Read Full Answer
