Questions for Steve Connelly

For Steve Connelly:
Mayor Connelly, I have noticed that when someone has a question about any other department in the city goverment, you respond very quickly, but if a question is asked in regards to the parks, your reponse is very slow, if you respond at all. Why is that?

Why would Ms. Renfro with the city parks give out tee shirts to all of her employees except for one part time worker who has been there for a few months, another part time who has only been there a few days got his shirts. She is treating this young man very badly. He is trying his best to work hard every day but she stays on him. I have read so many things about her I do not understand why she is still with the city parks.

mayor connely. do you think the general public realizes that on most days thAT YOU HAVE 3 OFFICERS WORKING THE ENTIRE CITY OF bEREA. dO YOU THINK THAT THEY ALSO KNOW THAT EACH SHIFT IS SCHEDULED FOR ONLY 6 AND NOW WITH AN OFFICER LEAVING TO GO TO THE MARINES THAT YOU NOW HAVE 1 LESS. DO YOU THINK THAT HIRING THE 3 OTHERS WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS SUMMER WHEN YOU WANT THE PARK TAKEN CARE OF FULL TIME? ALSO THE ONES YOU HIRE WILL HAVE TO GO TO THE ACADEMY FOR 16 WEEKS AND THEN GO THROUGH A TRAINING PROGRAM FOR 16 MORE. wHAT HAPPENS IF A FEW MORE QUIT? nO ONE WANTS TO GO ANY WHERE ELSE BUT PROMISES NEVER HAPPEN AND THEY ARE TIRED. SUPERVISORS ARE UNABLE TO SUPERVISE BECAUSE THEY ARE WORKING AS 1 OF THE 3 AND NO ONE TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THAT ALL OFFICERS HAVE VACATION TIME SICK TIME AND DAYS OFF. i THINK YOU AND THE CITY COUNCIL NEEDS TO TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT WHAT IS HAPPENING AND i WOULD LIKE ACTION INSTEAD OF JUST WORDS. OH BY THE WAY i HEARD YOU SAY THAT WE KEEP GETTING QUALIFIED PEOPLE TO APPLY. tAKE ANOTHER LOOK AND SEE HOW MANY APPLIED AND HOW MANY COULD PASS THE TEST THE LAST GO ROUND. iF WE HAVE A UNLIMITED POOL TO PICK FROM WHERE ARE THEY?
Answer: The issue of an adequate number of police officers to cover our city is important as is the continui... Read Full Answer

For Steve Connelly:
The cost may be little help but isnt finding money a problem for Haz Duty? I mean everything helps. I know of alot of cities that charge anywhere from $50-$75 depending on how many times police Depts and Fire depts have to respond over adn over and over to the same places each night. This takes away from response time to the publis for real problems that need to be took care of at that time. Now that we have talked about the false alarms lets get to Employee Retention. Yes ive herard all abtou the three officers that are in the process, btu what about the others that are looking else where? and its all because of better pay and Hax duty. Younger officers are going to other departments for this reason!!! your not gona keep GOOD qualified employee's. What if next week, three more officers leave? the city needs to fix this problem now not next year. Ive know a many mayors and city council members in my time, but i have never seen such an anti-police and fire city such as this, why is that?
Answer: I will ask Chief Rigsby for his opinion on charging for false alarms. Thank you for the suggestion. ... Read Full Answer

For Steve Connelly:
Mayor Connelly, I was recently in the new arts center having lunch with friends. One of which is friends with a gentleman that had plans for a new factory here in Berea. He's been living in Berea for at least two years trying to get this off the ground. Seems there has been a problem with purchasing the land from the city. It doesn't appear that we have people beating the doors down on that piece of property. He had talked with Mayor Kerby when he was in office on the piece of property. Now the price has jumped quite a bit. The WORST of the problem now is, he's going to TENNESSEE ! Thats alot of job loss for our community , not to mention the loss of tax money for the city. I just hate that we have lost a chance for more employment for our community. We have so many people driving to Lex. Georgetown etc...... I feel bad for the families that have to make such a drive when we could've had something right here.
Answer: The "friend of your friend" had plans to build a factory but little money. After his option to purch... Read Full Answer
