Mayor Connelly, I will indeed get back with you with some figures for the fire department personnel. You seem to always get around answersing any of the questions that are asked. You know, you have a calculator just like everyone else. Its pretty easy to add, and in most of our cases substract. Get back with you soon.
Answer: Perhaps you can include the current numbers and your suggested numbers to give a complete picture of... Read Full Answer

First I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. In the last few years the Police Dept has seen numerous people leave because of pay and benefits. Unless the city does something they will constantly be hiring and training new people. I know for a fact that there are at least five officers that are seeking employment elsewhere. Berea is a great place to work and if pay and benefits were there then no one would leave. The agency has recently become accredited and there are several officers within the dept that are instructors in several different fields. There are not many smaller town depts that can make this claim. If the city is not willing to provide hazardous duty then they should at least provide better pay than what is in place. Is this a concern that you and the council will be addressing in the near future or is it even an issue?
Answer: I think that the reality of police department personnel hiring is that each officer now has a market... Read Full Answer

For Steve Connelly:
Mayor Connelly, I think I can speak for most people on the Fire Department when I say that most of us are very dissapointed with the outcome of the city's pay adjustments for the department. The only people that seemed to benefit from this were the firefighters that have been here for a year or little longer. Some of them benefited by several thousand dollars while people that have been here for years and have alot of experience and training benefited as little as $166.00 per year. Give me a break. Thats just a slap in the face to the firefighters that have served this city for a long time. You now have people that have hardly put any time in this department making as much and some more than people that have been here for years. What reason do the firefighters that have served this city for years have to stay here. We have heard talk of the city doing away with tenure increases, so when will the veteran firefighters get any money? With some firefighters coming up on their 5 year tenure of 15%, the pay increase you gave them does not come close to matching the 15% they would have got. So money is being cut rather than give to them over the long term, and with the way the city has treated their veteran firefighters through this pay increase, what do they have to look forward to working for your city?
Answer: It is difficult to discuss this subject in the abstract. Will you provide examples of what pay raise... Read Full Answer

Mayor Connelly I know of several Police Officers that have been with the dept for at least 5 years and I know that officers that have been at teh dept for two years that make more money then the ones that have been there for 5 years. Do you think that this is fair? Is there any plans to fix this issue?
Answer: Without knowing whom you are referring to, I will have to say that I cannot evaluate the fairness of... Read Full Answer

What is wrong with you that you can't fix everything yourself, agree with everyone about everything, and expect the citizens of the community to participate in their government processes, to boot? (this is facetious, Mayor. Keep up the hard work.)
