Van, Food and Cash Stolen From Berea Church

BEREA - Thieves made off with a large stash of meat from a local church, and they apparently stole the church's van to move the goods.

Police say it happened on July 20 at the Berea United Methodist Church Parrish House, 101 Fee St, when unidentified suspects forcibly entered the building, kicked down two doors inside the building, then stole cash, food, and the church van, valued at $5,116 were taken.

The church van was subsequently recovered on John St., according to police, indicating the suspects may have used the van to transport the large quantity of stolen food.

July 20, Burglary 3rd Degree, Paradise Tan, Jefferson St. Business entered thru unsecured front window, tanning lotion, cash drawer, and cash, valued at $428.00, were taken. Perpetrator exited thru back door.

July 20, 11:15 a.m. Theft by Unlawful Taking u/$500, Do it Best Center, 1187 Paint Lick Rd. 7 bags of potting soil, valued at $23.00, were taken from front of business during the preceding night.

July 25, 10:25 a.m. Arrested Patrick A. Hamner, 29 YOA, Richmond for Madison Co. Warrant for Fugitive from Another State. Hamner was wanted for Forgery 1st Degree in Fulton County, GA.

July 26, 6:00 p.m. Theft by Unlawful Taking u/$500, Wal-Mart, 120 Jill St. Victim left diaper bag in restroom and wallet/contents, valued at $101.00, was taken. Diaper bag was later recovered by Wal-Mart employees.

July 27, 3:14 p.m. Arrested Susan S. Clark, 47 YOA, 31 Hurley St. #19 for Theft by Unlawful Taking – Shoplifting u/$500 and Criminal Trespassing 3rd Degree. Clark had concealed $41.39 in merchandise and had been previously banned from store for same offense.

July 27, 3:27 p.m. Burglary 3rd Degree, 118 Lester St. Vacant building entered, an estimated $2,000.00 in copper wire and pipe had been removed from the building.

July 29, 7:46 a.m. Arrested Gary C. Davidson, 29 YOA, Louisville for Alcohol Intoxication on Phillips St. Subject was passed out by the railroad tracks and when police arrived, subject had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from same and was very unsteady on his feet.

July 29, 11:57 a.m. Arrested Kristopher B. Fletcher, 29 YOA, Brodhead for Theft by Unlawful Taking u/$500 – Shoplifting on Chestnut St. Fletcher took 5 DVD’s, valued at $38.00, from the Dollar General on Prince Royal Dr.

July 29, 3:05 p.m. Arrested Thelma Whitaker, 45 YOA, Richmond for Theft by Unlawful Taking u/$500 – Shoplifting at Wal-Mart, 120 Jill St. Whitaker concealed $482.67 in merchandise and attempted to leave the store without paying for it.

July 29, 6:31 p.m. Burglary 3rd Degree, Lester St. A lock was cut off a storage building, a Wii and Xbox gaming systems, valued at $400.00, were taken.

July 29, 7:40 p.m. Arrested Devon M. Pierce, 24 YOA, 100 Morningview Rd. #3 for Theft by Unlawful Taking – Auto at 100 Morningview Rd. #3. Pierce took a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass from Wal-Mart parking lot and it was recovered in the woods beside his residence. The theft was captured on surveillance video at Wal-Mart.

July 30, 3:45 p.m. Arrested Alexandria C. Arce, 25 YOA, Berea for Theft by Unlawful Taking u/$500 – Shoplifting, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree, Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Prescription Controlled Substance not in Original Container at Wal-Mart. Arce concealed $122.77 in merchandise and attempted to leave store, she had been banned from the business due to previous same offense. The drug charges were placed after Madison County Detention employees discovered during search prior to incarceration.
