Richmond Man Accused of Arson, Theft

RICHMOND - A local man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a vehicle and arson.
On Wednesday, police charged Christopher Howard, age 20, Richmond, for theft and arson in connection with an auto theft that occurred in December 2009.
On 12/22/2009, at 2:20 A.M., Richmond police and fire units were dispatched to a vehicle fire in the 900 block of Four Mile Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a 2000 Toyota Celica completely engulfed in flames. Further examination of the vehicle revealed that the fire had been intentionally set. It was subsequently determined that the vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of Toyota South.
Follow-up investigation conducted by RPD Detective Aaron Stidham ultimately identified Howard as a suspect in the case, police said. On Wednesday, Howard was charged for the crime following an interview at the police department. Howard was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center, charged for the following offenses:
- Theft by Unlawful Taking over $500
- Arson 2nd Degree
The estimated value of the vehicle was $4000.00.

Drug Arrest: On 03/04/2010, police arrested Jonathan S. Roe, Sr., age 38, Steep Street, on the strength of an indictment charging him for Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree.
The charge stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Richmond Police Narcotics Unit in August 2010 wherein Roe sold a quantity of oxycodone during an undercover operation.
Roe was subsequently indicted by the Madison County Grand Jury on 02/03/2010 and a warrant of arrest was issued.
Roe was taken into custody at his residence without incident. He was lodged in the MCDC.
Business Alert: On 03/03/2010, two businesses in Richmond reported to police that counterfeit checks had been passed at their establishments on 02/22/2010. Liquor Mart and Central Liquor both reported that a white male suspect identifying himself as Greg Drake passed the counterfeit checks. The checks are designed to appear as if they are being drawn on the account of Papa John’s Pizza and are made out to Greg Drake. The suspect produces what appears to be a counterfeit driver’s license to get the checks cashed. A total of three counterfeit checks were passed, all in the amount of $134.50. Any business encountering this scam should contact the police department immediately for assistance.
