BEREA - Two Berea women reported an act of animal cruelty after they came home to find their residence burglarized and their kitten dead on a sidewalk.

Police said the incident was reported on June 20 when the complainants returned to their home at 414 Plum Tree Drive and found that their residence had apparently been entered without their permission.

Both the front and back doors were unlocked, and blinds were torn off the back door. The kitten appeared to have died a violent death.

"From the looks of it, somebody stomped its head," said Captain Ken Clark.

The women named a suspect who is known to them - a person with whom they have had an ongoing dispute, police said.

Nothing appeared to have been stolen, though police reported the case as an incident of burglary second-degree and cruelty to animals second-degree.
