Berea Coed Accused of Texting Middle School Student
BEREA – A Berea College student was jailed Friday after police say she sent inappropriate text messages to a 14 year-old girl.
Sarah E. Wilson, 20, was arrested last week and accused of sending sexually-oriented text messages to the minor, who police say is a student at Berea Community School.
Wilson met the juvenile at a dance competition on the Berea College campus, according to police.
Detectives were alerted to the case after the juveniles’ mother reported that Wilson had allegedly sent the inappropriate text messages to her daughter. A Berea police detective, posing as the minor, then engaged Wilson in a subsequent conversation that led to the arrest, police said.
Using text messaging, Wilson attempted to induce the juvenile to disobey her parents and go to a dorm room on the Berea College campus for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity, police said.
Wilson was charged with unlawful use of an electronic communication system to induce a minor to engage in sexual activity or other illegal activity – a Class D felony. She was also charged with unlawful transaction with a minor third degree – a misdemeanor.
Madison County was witness to another texting case earlier this year, in which Brandon Rousey pled guilty to a charge of sending inappropriate text messages to a minor. In a plea deal last July, he was sentenced to one year in prison but has currently petitioned for shock probation.
