RICHMOND - A man was arrested for burglary and violating a domestic violence order after police say he illegally entered his ex-girlfriend's apartment while she was sleeping.
Police say it happened early Wednesday when Richmond police arrested David Neace, 34, in connection with the unlawful entry into his ex-girlfriend’s residence in violation of a standing domestic violence order.
At approximately 1:45 A.M., officers responded to 310 E. Irvine Street to investigate a reported violation of a domestic violence restraining order.
Upon arrival, officers met with the female resident, who advised them that Neace had unlawfully entered her residence and was currently under a domestic violence restraining order.
Officers confirmed the existence of the court order, which prohibited Neace from having any contact with the female resident. The resident further advised the officers that she was asleep in her home when she was awakened by Neace.
When the resident telephoned the police to report Neace’s unlawful entry, he ran to the upstairs portion of the residence and hid in a bedroom, according to reports.
Officers checked the bedroom and found that it was locked. After Neace failed to comply with officers’ orders to come out of the bedroom, officers forced entry and found Neace standing in the room. Neace was immediately taken into custody.
The female resident later reported that Neace had stolen a small amount of money from her purse while he was in the residence, police said.
Officers found evidence that Neace had gained entry to the residence by climbing onto a porch roof and entering a second level window.
Neace was charged with burglary second degree and violation of a domestic violence order.
Neace, who listed a Big Hill Avenue address, was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
No one was injured in the incident.
