Man accused of locking toddler alone in Richmond house

Police have charged a local man with locking an unsupervised child in a Richmond home.

On Friday, Aaron Nathaniel Turner, 30, of Richmond, was arrested by Madison County Deputy Sheriff Tim Humble for criminal abuse – second degree – child under 12.

The arrest report states the following:

“Dispatched to above location in reference to child being locked in a residence at 124 B. Lee Drive. Upon arrival, this deputy met with Monica Marks who works for Social Service. Ms. Marks advised this deputy that a five year old child is locked in above residence with out adult supervision. While talking with the child trying to get her to open the door A seven year old came walking from 126 A Lee Drive and told this deputy that she lived in the residence as well. She also told this deputy that her mother was in the hospital having a baby. This deputy obtained a phone number from the child and had 911 dispatch call and advise them for someone to return to the residence with a key or the door was going to be kicked in. Dispatch spoke with above (Turner) and he advised dispatch that he would be at above location in 15 mins. Above arrived and was placed under arrest.”

The citation notes that the time of the violation of 4:32 p.m. Friday, and that Turner was arrested at 5:41 p.m.

Turner was lodged in the Madison County Detention Center on charges of criminal abuse – second degree, trafficking a controlled substance – first degree, possessing a controlled substance – second degree, buying or possessing drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
