Question from Top Cop
Ok my question didnt read right, so im gona fix it. Mayor form your previous statement you said that Haz Duty wasnt a priority that was your words. All im asking is, why is it that HAz Duty is such a priority and why is it takeing a back seat to all the other city projects. I know for a fact that your parks budget is greater than your Police and fire budget. why is that? as an employee and citizen of Berea, I think I deserve a better answer than 'NO".

Steve Connelly answered:
From the Berea City 2005-06 budget which ends June 30, 2006, these are the budget figures: Fire - $$994,401; Police - $1,994,276 for a total of $2,988,677. Personnel expense is a big part of this cost. Parks is $670,282.

Hazardous retirement could become a priority, but the case has not yet been made. City budgeting is all about setting priorities.

I think the current priority is eliminating the 5, 10, and 15 years wage raises, and replacing them with higher overall salaries for police and fire in the earlier years. If successful, this approach would result in a pay raise for these employees with up to 10 years employemnt.
