Question from Anonymous
Why in the world would the City feel it’s responsible for hiring a respectable environmental engineering firm to evaluate the site? Does the City NOT realize that’s the seller’s responsibility? You stated in a previous comment that Parker Seal would be responsible for environmental issues. Regardless of who purchases that property, the environmental issues should have already been addressed. Ask anyone one that worked there how many environmental issues they know of now. Just one more expense for the City of Berea!

Steve Connelly answered:
I think that hiring an environmental engineer who represents the interests of Berea is a prudent step both to review the data provided by the seller and to conduct additional assessments if suggested by the existing data. Being a penny wise can be a pound (dollar) foolish in the end.
